Varen – the home of Pfyfoltru wine

The village of Varen is surrounded by vineyards and at the very centre of organic wine-growing with the ‘Pfyfoltru’ (butterfly) label.

The wine-growing village with its 650 inhabitants on the Pfynwald plateau committed itself to organic wine growing a decade ago.

Pfyfoltru wines " a dialect term for butterfly " stand for nature and the environment, health and well-being, and for the rating "excellent" by an acknowledged wine tasting committee.

Discover the unique variety of nature on a hike along the Bisse de Varone or the cultural trail Dala-Raspille. Visit one of the wine cellars in Varen and become firm friends with the vintner. He will gladly philosophise about organic wine growing and the refinement of the Varner wines..

Winefeast Varen:
The crowning highlight of the Varen Wine Weeks is the Pfyfoltru-Winefest. This year it takes place from the 20st until the 21st September 2013. On Friday the smooth food stands invites to tarry. Until far into the night a extra shuttle bus circulates between Leukerbad and Varen. More Information

Wine tasting in Varen: For more than a decade wine growers have staked their hopes on nature. The label "Pfyfoltru®" - meaning butterfly in the Varner dialect - is given to an organic wine which was rated "excellent" by a wine tasting committee. More Information
